Tsholotsho, Mgodi Masili Church Branch

The church in tsholotsho was established in September 1993. After the August Conference in 1993, three young people were motivated to go and witness in Tsholotsho. These included; Pastor Layton Moyo, Pastor Shadrach Ncube and the late Mr. Stanley Mlotshwa. They left Bulawayo for Tsholotsho to preach the gospel.

They took a step of faith that God was going to lead them through and through as they were not aware of the location nor the cultural history of the area. God had revealed to Pastor Lucky Moyo the need for the gospel to be taken to this area. The evangelists having reached Tsholotsho first stayed with the Kraal Head at Mgodi Masili (Sobhuku Ncube).

Pastor Lyton MoyoThey preached door to door, for one month. Pastor Lyton Moyo also joined them. They established Home Cells. Alternating teams from Bulawayo also came to help in the mission field. Sunday Church services were being held at the Pre-School. Demons and evil spirits fled away with the manifestation of the Holy Spirit as the missionaries preached the gospel. People were healed and others got saved. The church in Mgodi Masili grew amazingly with a following of more than 60 people.

 Challenges faced:

  • Young people are groomed and they later on migrate to South-Africa
  • Continuity of leadership-the church has not been able to raise local leaders to run the church.
  • The church also has a poor representation of men in the church.
  • Bible Training - it is difficult to train people in bible studies because there are no Ndebele and Shona study manuals

Sub-branches

There are two sub-branches to the Tsholotsho church in Njobo ( 11km south of Mgodi Masili) and Gariya, which is 16km North west of Mgodi Masili. The Njobo church branch is led by Mr. Banda and Mr. Ncube, whereas the Gariya branch is led by a church elder Mr. Luphahla. A church committee leads the Mgodi masili branch.
